While you’re researching wedding photographers, you may notice that some photographers come as a team. Some are spouse teams, others are teams created between professionals. But, do you need two wedding photographers? At Janelle and Co Photography, we believe that answer is always yes. Each wedding and elopement packages include a lead photographer (Janelle), and an assistant photographer. No matter how big, or how small your wedding is, you need two wedding photographers, and here is why!
A question I get asked often is, “What if my future spouse and I are getting ready at the same time? Can we still have both of us photographed during that time?” The answer is absolutely “Yes!”. One of the reasons I like to have an assistant photographer with me is so that if we need to split up and document different details on the wedding day, we can do that. It lessens the stress and rush of a wedding day to have two people being able to document these events.
There are several scenarios where we are documenting different details of the wedding celebrations. Examples include: Brides and Grooms getting ready in different areas of the venue. Capturing the different angles of the wedding ceremony, including when the bride walks down the aisle, and capturing the groom’s reaction! Documenting the guests at cocktail hour while also photographing the formal family portraits. These images are then seamlessly integrated together in the gallery you receive. These are just a few examples of why having two wedding photographers is a good idea!

Legal wedding ceremonies require two wedding witnesses to sign the license. So, having two wedding photographers helps take the stress out of one more aspect to eloping! We are happy to act as your wedding witnesses at no additional cost to you.
In the unlikely event that the lead photographer is unable to photograph your event due to unexpected circumstances, you know you’ll have a built in backup. You’ll have two people already blocking out your entire wedding day on their calendar. Because each assistant is already a wedding professional themselves, you can rest assured you’ll be treated with respect, excitement, and professionalism. Luckily this has never been an issue before, but it’s just good insurance for both the wedding client and the photographer.
Because we are different people, we come with different ideas and perspectives. This is such a benefit to you and your images. I arrive prepared with shot lists and plenty of ideas for couple portraits. But, sometimes my assistant has incredible ideas that they bring to the table as well! As the lead photographer, I, Janelle have the final say in how the celebration is documented. But, as a team, we bounce ideas off each other and this allows us to offer you the absolute best experience on your wedding day! Because we work so well together, you can rest assured our experience runs over into working with videographers as well.
In short, I definitely recommend having two wedding photographers for your wedding day! It’s good insurance, you can have them act as your wedding witnesses, and they can be documenting separate details simultaneously. Luckily, each of our packages already include two photographers to make your booking even easier. Book with confidence when you book Janelle & Co Photography for your wedding or elopement!
