The blog is a collection of wedding and elopement highlights sharing your beautiful stories. It also includes wedding planning tips and inspiration.
With the seasons beginning to change, it’s time to start looking at fall outfit inspiration for your engagement session! Engagement sessions are some of my favorites to shoot, it’s a great time to get to know you both. As the colors are changing around us, it’s time to plan accordingly. If an outdoor adventure session in Jackson Hole is your cup of tea, I’ve got just the fall outfit inspiration for you. No matter what you’re planning, let’s dive into some inspo for your engagement session!
I love when my couples wear layers, or bring layers to their sessions. It helps provide a variety of options for different locations, poses, and helps you both have options for your wedding pictures! If it’s still warm when you’re planning your session, consider a light sweater, a jean jacket, or even a blanket for some cozy outdoor pictures. Throughout the session, we’ll be able to switch things up, and keep your pictures looking fresh and different allowing for variety in your gallery!
When you’re planning your outfits, go for coordinating colors, and avoid completely matching. When you wear matching colors, there isn’t any depth and you two become one person (which sounds great, but visually, you won’t like it!). Coordinating colors throughout the fall season will be a great way to showcase the beautiful fall colors. Have him wear a plaid shirt, and you wear a subtle color in that shirt, that way you look like you belong, and aren’t completely matching.
Unsure of what coordinating colors are? Some of my favorite coordinating colors include, navy & mustard or rust, mauve & burgundy, olive & cream, or even neutrals like grey & white. Keep it simple, and let your love shine! The location and your relationship will be the most important stars of the show anyway, try not to stress.
I love when my clients wear hats to their session! It’s such a fun fall accent that adds personality and a unique element to their shoot. We’re able to use the hat as a prop and have fun with posing! Hats are a great way to bring more layers and variety to your outfit while showing off your personality. Consider a hat like this one on Amazon, so perfect for fall and under $20!
Wearing a dress may seem silly if we’re exploring in Grand Teton National Park, but it allows for such great movement and fun during your session! It also is fun to get dressed up for your engagement session. Have your partner wear a coordinating button down shirt and pants, it’ll be a great complementary outfit, and you could even make it a date night! Let’s capture your love during your fall engagement session, and then go out for dinner. When you plan a fun night around the session, everyone looks forward to the shoot.
Having one person wear a pattern like plaid, is a unique way to bring color into your shoot and gives you options for different outfits. If you decide to opt for a pattern, choose one big print, small prints can become chaotic quickly! I love plaid for the fall and winter because it always reminds me of cozy fires, and going to the pumpkin patch. Consider having your man wear the plaid shirt, and you wear a simple solid colored dress with a scarf or hat! Perfect for any fall engagement session.
While this may not seem like it’s specifically fall outfit inspiration, I love suggesting my clients dress up. It’s a fun way to make an event out of your session and have fun together. Dressing up looks different for everyone, maybe your version of dressing up is wearing dark wash jeans, and a nice shirt, you’ll look beautiful! Or maybe, it’s a suit and tie. Whatever dressing up means to you, have fun with it and wear something that makes you both feel like a million bucks. These pictures are going to get sent to everyone, so it’s important you love them!
Keep in mind the location you’re shooting at when planning your outfits. If you decide to wear tall high heels, maybe avoid any locations that would require a hike (or bring extra shoes!).
Nevertheless, as seasons change, so do the colors that are in season. One of my favorite ways to celebrate the season is embracing those colors and showcasing them throughout the event. For fall, I would suggest wearing colors like rust orange, burgundy, mocha, cream, rich colors that you would see in nature. The most important thing about fall outfit inspiration is looking around you, and embracing the ever-changing world around us.
Avoid wearing colors that your location is filled with, consider opting for a neutral or even a navy. If we’re shooting in a grove of trees filled with orange, yellow and red leaves, consider wearing colors like olive, mocha, or cream. That way you’ll stand out in the beautiful scenery while still looking like you belong! Not sure what your location will look like? Send me a message and I’ll share some ideas of what colors I think would look best.
No matter what you choose to wear, you’re going to look incredible throughout your fall engagement session. Your unique relationship and love story will be the star of the show. Don’t stress while planning your outfits, if you’re stressing, reach out! I want to help you in anyway I can. Let’s do this!
