Ellen and Skylar are such a beautiful couple and incredibly photogenic. This, along with their awesome personalities and obvious love for each other made it easy to photograph their engagement photo session in the Tetons. While visiting Idaho, these two lovebirds made a trip over to Jackson Hole, which is where they are also planning their 2022 destination wedding. We met up at String Lake to start their engagement photo session and finished at Cathedral View Turnout. 

Planning an Engagement Photo session with your wedding photographer

When possible, I love having the opportunity to work with my destination clients before their wedding day. Some couples choose to make a trip out as an engagement party or just because it’s always been on their bucketlist. Many make a visit a year prior to see venues and meet vendors in person.  An engagement photo session is a must already! Engagement photos can be used for social media, wedding websites, save the dates, wedding invitations, and announcements. It’s an added bonus when the same photographer can capture your engagements and wedding photos. This gives you both time to get comfortable with each other, and make sure the poses and images that will be delivered from your wedding day are your favorite!

Neutral Colors for Mountain Backdrops

When Ellen showed me what they had brought for outfits, I was so excited. I knew that the neutral color scheme would work beautifully with the backdrop of the Tetons. Sometimes it’s best to keep things simple because there are so many colors, textures, and patterns in the trees, water, sand and dirt, and mountain hillsides. Outfits with neutrals like pale gold, white, tan, gray, and various shades of those colors, and others, make a couple really stand out from the background.

Every couple brings different energy to their session.  I can usually ‘read’ a couple during our session and know how much spontaneity they are up for. Some couples require more coaching, and others move very naturally. Ellen and Skylar were up for trying new poses, running on the road, and making out barefoot by the water.  I’m thrilled to be celebrating with them next year for their Fall destination wedding!
