As a Jackson Hole wedding photographer I get to witness so many fun trends. But one that is totally timeless and will always look great in wedding pictures is having a bridesmaids dress color palette, and allowing them to choose their gowns. Without matching too much, but still having a coordinated look. Your bridesmaids will stand out and look great in your wedding party! Brides are leaning more and more into this trend, and giving their girls free rein choosing their gowns, and encouraging them to find something they love and will wear again! Here is how to do it right!
A lot of trust goes into letting your bridesmaids choose their own bridesmaids dresses while staying in a color palette. But after all, these are some of your closest friends! Make sure they understand the assignment by having clear communication about the style and color palette of your wedding day.
To avoid any miscommunication or confusion, give your bridesmaids a color palette or even a fabric swatch of the exact colors. This allows them to go to whatever store they choose and have the exact color you’re envisioning at their fingertips. Print out a few different colors that are “approved” for their dresses. If they’re still having a hard time finding the perfect dress, make a day of it and go together, or have them snap some pictures!
Every wedding is different. Some more formal, and others are laid back. Your wedding may even have a very specific theme. If these factors have the potential to influence the style of dress you want to see your bridesmaids in, let them know! Set the expectation if you want floor length or cocktail dress. Or if you want a more casual or formal look.
By letting your bridesmaids know what style of dress will look best with your other wedding day plans, you will allow them to narrow down their search while staying within the bridesmaids dress color palette.
There are so many gorgeous color combinations that work beautifully for bridesmaids dresses! Be sure to consider your wedding decor and florals while choosing your bridesmaids dress color palette. But here are a few timeless ideas to get you started!
Next, neutrals are a classic and elegant color palette that will elevate any wedding party. There are so many beautiful options when look for a neutral bridesmaids dress, but here is one tip to keep in mind when looking. Consider the undertones. If you are wanting a more uniform look, be sure to mention to your bridesmaids if you want a more warm or cool undertone to their neutral gowns. However, neutrals rarely clash, so this is a bridesmaids color palette you really can’t go wrong with.
Blues are beyond sophisticated when it comes to weddings. A variety of blues are so lovely for a bridesmaids dress color palette, and are sure to work well in every season! Pairing blues with light beiges and brown is a beautiful way to ground the colors and bring in earthiness to the wedding party. Not to mention earthy colors look good on almost everyone, and may even be a dress they can wear again!
Light pinks are elegant and feminine, perfect for any bridesmaid or flower girl. I especially love pinks for how they stand out against the natural backdrops for Jackson Hole weddings. By choosing colors that are not found in nature as often, your bridesmaids will have contrast against the backdrop, making them the focus of the image.
For a more delicate aesthetic, opt for a pastel bridesmaids dress color palette. These colors photograph beautifully, and compliment most skin tones, as you can choose between warm and cool pastels. In addition, pastels are easily found in store and online.
Create a warmer look with gem tones in your bridesmaids dress color palette! These colors tend to be more popular in the fall, but truly look amazing in any season. Your bridesmaids will be able to easily coordinate with the many options they will find within this color palette.
By assigning a color palette and giving your bridesmaids the freedom to choose their own style dress, you are allowing them to express themselves on your wedding day. It will give your wedding party images more interest. As well as bring in the many different personalities of your closest friends!
