You’re planning your wedding day and considering everything you want to have photographed. But you’re not sure you need Wedding Day Getting Ready Photos. I love this portion of the day because it allows for documenting details, connection with loved ones, private moments to reflect, and so much more. These are just a few of my favorite reasons that getting ready photos on your wedding day are important. Which ones would be important to you? Let’s find out!
I often get brides who say, “I don’t really need photos of me getting my hair and makeup done”. Or, “I’m eloping, so I don’t think I need that”. While that can certainly be an aspect to the wedding day getting ready photos, that is NOT all that there is to it! It’s also not just for the ladies. Guys get to take part in the getting ready portion too if they want. Setting aside this time gives you an opportunity to relax for a bit and really soak in all the feels. While we take those beautiful detail shots, you get all the jitters out and breathe deep. Set aside 30-60 minutes for getting ready photos, possibly more if including your bridal party preparations also.
This time at your hotel room or the groom/bride’s room at your venue is the perfect place for detail shots. Whether you have items set aside for lay flat photos, or want photos of your dress hanging up, now is the time. These details are harder to document in the same fashion once you’re in your dress and out experiencing your wedding day. We want to see the beautiful wedding announcement you sent out. And document that special heart you sewed into your dress in remembrance of your grandma.
I love these small private moments of yours where you get to take time to reflect. It may seem like a strange thing to be doing on your wedding day, but in the hustle and bustle of it all, having a little bit of private time is just the thing. As you put in those earrings passed down from your grandmother. As you put on the dress your mother wore at her wedding that you had revamped to be your own style. As you pin your boutonniere on that has a photo of your late dad. When you sit to put on your shoes and think of the times your loved one has shared footsteps with you on your path together. You get to reflect on the moments that brought you to this beautiful wedding day.
Whether you’re all celebrating together, or they are sending well wishes from states away, this is a beautiful moment to connect with your loved ones. While they are reading the cards you wrote them to thank them for being there. Or you’re video chatting right before you get into your dress and they send you the best vibes over the web. As your mom or best friend zips up your wedding dress and you see yourself in it for the first time on your wedding day. As your grandma hugs you and kisses your cheek while she reminisces about her wedding day 50 years before. These are all moments we may capture during your wedding day getting ready photos.
It’s more than just the hair and makeup time. It’s the memories that come from the love of those that surround you – whether in person or in spirit. Let us document your most precious wedding day moments. Connect with us about your destination wedding photography.
