Special Wedding Dances are one of the traditions that keeps living on, and I am here for it! This is one tradition that I don’t mind if it sticks around forever and ever! I think that now that I have a child, it makes these moments even more emotional for me. I imagine dancing with my son at his wedding someday and hope I’ll be around to witness it.
There are a lot of different special wedding dances you might consider including into your festivities. Some of these include the typical first dance, mother and son dance, and father and daughter dance. You may also choose to include a dance with grandma, best friend, or in laws. The sky is the limit, but keep it intentional. Some couples choose to only include the first dance in their wedding and that’s totally okay.
These have quickly become an emotional hot spot for me. I always tear up watching these dances happen because I hope to be the mom in one of them! I definitely have several years… a few decades to go before that. But I love watching sons dance with their moms. There is just a different connection between moms and their kids that I love to document. Whether it’s a lively dance or a slow dance, you’ll be so grateful to have these memories documented.
Daddy daughter dances always bring back memories of my own wedding day and dancing with my dad. I remember the first time I realized my dad knew how to waltz and we danced in the kitchen. Every once in awhile a song would come on and he’d pull me or one of my sisters in for a dance in the middle of the house. Dancing with my own dad on my wedding day was so special, and so many brides feel the same!
Some families have different dynamics and there isn’t always a parent to dance with. This is where the in-laws, grandparents, or a favorite uncle can step in. While it doesn’t fill those shoes, these moments are still precious. Some couples have children together already and choose to have a first dance as a a whole family. Or do a special dance individually with their kids. Your kids will love seeing these photos in the years to come!
And my favorite, First Dances! Whether you are eloping or having a grand party, you can have a first dance. Because so many of my weddings don’t take place in the traditional wedding venue, most of our first dances happen in nature. We often take photos for the first minute of the dance and then give the couple some privacy to soak in all the feelings from their big day. But sometimes first dances are not all sappy either, it’s your wedding day so have fun with it!
Special Wedding Dances are a great way to connect with your loved ones! Let me photograph your wedding and document all these special memories.
