It’s time to start thinking about your Rexburg family photos! There are a lot of factors to consider when booking your family session. Weather, sunset time, location choice, and what you want to wear.
In Idaho, my favorite seasons are Summer and Fall. I do love late Spring as well, once the snow has fully melted and the grass has had time to recover. Summer is nice because the days are long and warm. And Fall has the beautiful colors showing off.
If you have to work around a full time, 9-5 job schedule, then Spring and Summer are your best options. This will allow you to finish your workday before family photo time. Later in the Fall, the sun sets early enough that sessions need to start around 5pm. This can cause issues for families who can’t take time off of work. Usually this means they want to book a weekend session, but many photographers who offer weddings as well will not have weekends available for family sessions. Keep this in mind when choosing what season you’d like to have your photos taken in.
I often take into account the season when I’m planning what to wear for family sessions. You don’t want to wear a thick bulky sweater in the summer, you will melt on the spot! You should pick outfits that are comfortable and season appropriate. Lightweight and light colors are ideal for warmer months. For cooler months, create outfits that have layers you can add on for warmth. You can also enjoy darker colors more in this season as the sun won’t be as hot!
This is the biggest factor when choosing what season to book your photoshoot. How does the season affect your child’s happiness at a photoshoot? As mentioned above, sunset and weather conditions can greatly impact their mood. Avoid times of the year where the heat or severe cold might make them uncomfortable. If your child has an early bedtime, plan for a morning session or a session during a season with earlier sunsets. If you’re child is the happiest after their morning nap, see what options are available for a studio session, or somewhere with plenty of shade for an earlier session time. This allows us to capture them when they will be the happiest!
It’s such a joy and honor to photograph a family’s memories! I love to capture the family as a whole and all the little groupings. For safety reasons, I do not share pictures of children without their parents in the photo with them. But, we definitely document their adorable little faces individually for our clients!
