Laura & Ryan chose to celebrate their anniversary with a Mountain Couples Photography Wyoming session at Taggart Lake Trailhead and Cottonwood Creek in early May. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect—the trail was dry and beginning to show signs of spring’s arrival with fresh greenery emerging across the landscape.

Taggart Lake Trailhead Bridge

One of my favorite features of this trail is the beautiful bridge located just 7-10 minutes from the trailhead. This bridge crosses a gorgeous cascade where water tumbles over rocks of varying sizes, creating a stunning visual and ambient soundtrack for photos. We were incredibly fortunate to capture their session here, as the bridge had recently been replaced during trail reconstruction but became inaccessible for much of the season due to ongoing efforts. Talk about perfect timing!

Tips for Early Season Mountain Sessions

Early season photography in the mountains requires thoughtful preparation. While many trails may be dry, temperatures can still be quite cool, especially near water features and in shaded areas. I always recommend bringing extra layers like cozy but dressy coats and warm footwear that’s both functional and photogenic. These pieces not only keep you comfortable but add wonderful texture and depth to your images.
