Tips to Choosing Your Wedding Colors

What color scheme should you choose for your wedding? Bright and bold? Neutral? Or are earth tones more your thing? In my experience, having at least three colors in a wedding is the way to go. Trying to plan with just two colors is difficult because there are so many decorations and flowers to include in your wedding.

Think of your wedding location

Will your wedding be indoor or outdoor? In the mountains or on the beach? Will there be bright greens to contend with or snow? These are all things to consider when choosing your wedding colors.

Follow the Current Season

Choosing colors that are in season can help your decorations flow . For example, if you are getting married in autumn you could choose a color palette that would compliment the outdoors, such as reds, oranges, and yellows. Some brides have even chosen to include Halloween colors in their wedding.

Choose Trendy Colors

Currently, the trend for wedding colors seems to be light pink, sage, pale blue, and neutral tones like cream. Honestly, I think these are great color choices and really compliment a summer wedding. Pinterest is a great resource for creating mood boards and collecting inspiration for your wedding color palette.

Choose Your Favorite Colors

In my wedding, I chose to have yellow, light blue, and grey with white as an accent color. They were my favorite colors and I thought they went well together. I loved how the decorations turned out and I still love looking at pictures from my wedding! Another example: I went to a wedding where the colors were the bride’s and the groom’s favorite color. Their wedding really showed off their personality.

Pick Coordinating Complimentary Colors

Another option for wedding colors is to choose complimentary, monologous, or analogous color schemes. These are great options because they are aesthetically pleasing. In art, this is one technique to use when planning out a composition. Some complimentary colors you could choose from could be red/green, blue/orange, or purple/yellow.

An example of a monologous color scheme would be different shades of the same color, such as whites and creams, or pinks.

Analogous colors are those that are next to each other on the color wheel such as red, red-orange, orange, orange-yellow, yellow.

Whatever colors you decide to use in your wedding, make sure that you are happy with the overall look. Your wedding day is your time to show off all of the carefully planned-out colors, decorations, and details you chose to include.
