You might be nervous about being in front of the camera on your wedding day. Don’t worry. My job as a photographer is to make sure you feel comfortable in front of the camera so that you love your photos. Here are some of my favorite posing tips for wedding couples.

The Sit and Snuggle Pose

This pose is one of my favorites when it’s an option for wedding couples. There aren’t always places for our wedding couples to sit down without worrying about soiling their wedding attire. One of the reasons I love the big rocks that are found in the Grand Teton National Park forests is that they can fit both individuals on them. Posing couples in this manner allows them to still look elegant while being snuggled up and relaxed.

Holding Hands and Running or Walking

This is a favorite of mine, no matter the wedding! The great thing is, this doesn’t require much posing assistance. If the couple is running side by side across the photo frame (and not towards you), I always tell the couple on the far side to be a few steps ahead so we can see them both in the picture.

Hold Hands Between You

Not knowing what to do with your hands can be intimidating during a photoshoot. This pose is easy and is the first step in creating more movement in photos as well. From here I zoom in, capture the pose from different angles, and then direct my clients to start moving. Push and pull each other back and forth and let the laughter out!

Classic Wedding Pose

I love this classic pose that allows couples to snuggle up, while still showing off their wedding attire. This pose can be done a few different ways. Sometimes I have the couple tuck in closer, or move further apart. This pose and its variances are also a great way to get details shots of wedding rings!

Wedding Veils in the Wind

No matter the size of the wedding veil, there are beautiful ways to showcase it! One of my favorite poses with a cathedral view is to have the couple do a kiss or dip. Then, an assistant off to the side helps to billow out the veil. They toss the veil up and we capture it as it falls. It’s dreamy and romantic, and always become some of my favorite photos.

Under the Veil Kisses

If you choose to have a shorter veil, this pose is perfect to showcase the romance you experience on your wedding day. Capturing this kind of photo requires a wider angle lens and is easier with an extra set of hands. Even if you’re not sure you want to wear a veil for your entire day, having it for these photos is perfect!

Over the Shoulder Lift

This is definitely a favorite of mine when couples are adventurous enough to try it out! This pose is fun, spunky, and feels spontaneous. It’s also a great way to sneak in a butt grab or two!

Soft Shoulder Kisses

Starting on the neck or the shoulder, slowly kiss your way up or down and bask in the moment! While this pose starts off really romantically, it has room for a lot of fun too! You can get a little extra steamy with each other, or laugh it up! Either way will give you movements you’ll love.

The Chin Hold Pose

A soft chin hold and cheek kiss brings a softness and tenderness to any wedding couple’s portraits. Make sure you’re connected with each other with multiple touch points!

Celebratory “Wohoo!”

One of my favorite couples poses for an elopement is a celebratory “Wohoo!” It’s the best way to end the night!
