The blog is a collection of wedding and elopement highlights sharing your beautiful stories. It also includes wedding planning tips and inspiration.
On your wedding day, it’s going to be all about you and your person, and what makes that relationship special. When planning your day, include unique wedding details that showcase your love story. What was important throughout your relationship and what sets you both apart. People get married all the time, but you’re only getting married once, so let’s make it a good one!
I’ve had couples include things like temporary tattoos for their guests because they love tattoos. Things that are unique to them, or monumental memories from their relationship. The more fun details about your relationship you can add the better. Your wedding guests want to know about you and your partner, share all the fun details with them! The more the merrier, and will set you and your big day apart for the better.
Consider adding elements from dates you’ve been on, or things you’ve experienced together into your day. I’ve had couples that love painting together adding artistic elements to their day. Maybe you’re big hikers exploring Grand Teton National Park together, include some of your favorite hikes, or add a ‘map’ of your event for guests. It can be the ‘roadmap’ for what’s to come for the event, and bring together elements that brought everyone to your event.
Perhaps your first date was at a paint and sip event, and you both hit it off. Consider having a watercolor painting for your guest book instead of the traditional book. This adds a fun and unique wedding detail that actually is meaningful to the two of you. Not only will the painting be something you actually utilize in your home, but you’ll be able to remember where your love story began.
Next, an interactive guest book. Consider something like a Polaroid guest book, game pieces, or even a piece of art. One couple I worked with had all of their guests choose paint to pour on a canvas, at the end of the ceremony, the brides poured their own colors on top. It was a unique and fun way to say, “I was here” and have everyone come together to create something unique and memorable.
Wedding days are filled with chaotic moments, and not nearly enough time for the two of you to just be together. So, we make those moments. First, we can do that is by writing cards to one another and reading them in private. When you both read your cards we can pose you together back-to-back and create an incredibly romantic and intimate moment on your big day.
This can be right before your first look, and it gives you both a moment to reflect on your relationship and celebrate your future together. Unique wedding details like this one allow time for the two of you to breathe and be together amidst the chaos of the day.
Following the private cards, is a first look. A first look is always something that I love, just like I mentioned above, it’s a great way to create a private moment for the two of you. First looks have become incredibly popular in the recent years and have been a great way to bring the two of you before the big moment. A first look is the event when the wedding couple see one another for the first time on their wedding day. Traditionally, the couple won’t see each other before walking down the aisle, but a first look is the perfect way to share that moment together.
Couples opt for a first look often to have that moment together. Oftentimes, brides will have a first look with their fathers on their wedding day. It’s a great way to honor their parents and a symbolic way to show a father’s little girl growing up. First looks are always one of my favorite unique wedding details to capture.
Similar to writing cards to your partner, I suggest writing cards to your parents too. It’s a great time to thank your parents for standing by you, and supporting you throughout your journey to get where you are now. Maybe your grandma is your important person in your life, whoever that person is, take a few minutes and write to them. Consider writing to your future in-laws, and thanking them for raising your partner who you’ll spend the rest of your life with. These unique wedding details are some that will always be a favorite among family.
Throughout my years as a Jackson Hole wedding photographer, I thought I’d seen it all. However, one of my most recent weddings proved that wrong. The wedding couple had fun facts about one another printed on all of the napkins! Such a creative way to welcome their wedding guests into their world, and share some unique details about the two of them. Although this may not be your cup of tea, consider adding fun details about yourselves somewhere in the event. It was such a fun touch, and will be something I remember for awhile!
Another private moment that can be created on your wedding day. A private first dance is a great way to share a romantic moment with your partner before your guests arrive. We’ll find an intimate spot, and play your wedding song and allow you both to dance together. We can take pictures if you want, or we can let the two of you do your thing. Nevertheless, unique wedding details like this one are a great way to create memories to last a lifetime.
Instead of having traditional wedding rings, maybe tattoos are more your style. I’ve had numerous clients opt for this route while making more memories along the way. You can choose to tattoo your new last name, or even a symbol of something that’s meaningful to you.
Wedding favors are a tradition that can quickly become stressful, trying to figure out what your guests will actually use and like. Make it a fun and interactive wedding favor! Recently, I had a couple give all their wedding guests temporary tattoos to celebrate their wedding day. I’ve seen brides hand out wildflower seeds to ‘watch their love grow’, things like this allow guests to continue the wedding festivities, long after the event ends.
I’m sure as you’ve scrolled Pinterest, you’ve seen bridal shoes with the words “I do” written on the bottom of them? That’s exactly what wedding day shoes are! Couples write words like “I do” or even their vows on the bottom of their shoes to create an even more sentimental item. Your wedding day shoes are going to be something you treasure forever, but adding your vows or something special is a great way to make them that much more special.
Nevertheless no matter what unique wedding details you decide to add to your big day, it’s going to be unique and special to you. I love seeing how couples incorporate their love story into their big day. Let’s work on capturing your happily ever after together.
