This Gothic inspired Halloween couple session was put together for an Island Park Photography retreat. In the fall of 2019, I hosted a cabin retreat in Island Park for fellow photographers and creatives. Photography retreats are a lot of fun. We bring together models, makeup artists and hair stylists, wedding decorators and photographers. If you didn’t know, A retreat and workshop allow photographers and creatives to attended styled shoots. These styled shoots are for fun, as well as to gain experience and build portfolios. Also, we had participants from as far as Washington state!
Gothic Inspired Themes
I worked closely with Wedding and Party Exchange to put together the wedding decorations for this shoot. I loved the Gothic inspired decorations from their shop. It was still a bohemian feel, but had those kind of moodier Gothic tones with the black, gold, and red decorations. Then the crystal ball and sundial added a mystical touch. This section of the forest by our cabin rental was full of partly dead trees. I felt like this allowed for whole setting to feel moodier.
McKenzie found this gorgeous silver and black dress that worked perfectly for the theme as well. The bridal bouquet was created by Twig and Bloom Flower Farm. It had rich and dynamic fall colors and unique flora and fauna.
Halloween Couples Photos
McKenzie does a lot of modeling and has the most gorgeous smile I’ve ever seen! But she also loves the more serious and moody modeling style. The moody style was perfect for this Gothic inspired shoot. Huge thanks to our stylists that leant their skills! The hair for this shoot was done by Laurel Mae Coburn, with makeup by Jaime Shippen. McKenzie and her husband were perfect for these Halloween-esque couples photos. I’m so glad we had them as a part of our photography workshop!
