I had the privilege of photographing my cousin’s Utah engagement pictures last summer. My wedding season was jam packed that year and I could only fit them in if they came to meet us at our campsite. It isn’t quite my usual way to do business but we were camping in the prettiest canyon in Utah, so we made it happen.
The wildflowers were in full bloom in a profusion of color. I’m sad to see the flowers go each year, so it’s a treat to capture such stunning color out in nature during a session. For some reason most of my sessions tend to be too early or too late in the season for wildflowers. In the mountain west, the best time for flowers at lower elevation is around June. Up at higher elevations, the best flowers are blooming from July to August.
We spent about an hour walking around the campground and behind it finding the prettiest spots. I can’t wait to spend more time in this location next summer.
Becca and Brandon brought a few outfit choices with them for their Utah engagement pictures. I recommend doing this to give you variety in your picture choices. It also allows you to show off different parts of your personalities and still have some more formal photos. It’s good to have choices! They love rock bands so they brought a favorite band shirt for the last part of their session. Each couple brings a unique energy to their photo shoot, and my cousin likes to have fun. So it was no surprise that some of their favorite photos were the silly ones!
After their session, we all had dinner together. My sister and her husband love to cook big when we’re camping and had made the most delicious Dutch-oven pizza and cobbler.
