When Weather Tests an Outdoor Family Photographer

As an outdoor family photographer, I’ve learned that Mother Nature doesn’t always cooperate with our plans. Rachel and Cody hired me for their engagement photos and family pictures in the Tetons, and we faced exactly this challenge when inclement weather threatened our evening session.

Mountain View Turnout Engagement Photos

The evening started with high hopes at Jenny Lake, but the wind proved too intense. We couldn’t even keep our eyes open safely near the water. Rather than forcing a difficult situation, we quickly moved to Mountain View Turnout. This flexibility allowed us to capture beautiful moments of Rachel and Cody. Rachel looked stunning in a white dress paired with a jean jacket, while Cody complemented her perfectly in a gray-green tee and tan pants.

Creating Western Family Portraits at Teton Glacier Turnout

Our second location at Teton Glacier Turnout brought a wardrobe change and a shift in energy. Both Rachel and Cody changed into purple-red toned button-ups with jeans and western hats, creating a cohesive western casual look. Their little guy absolutely stole the show in his cream plaid button-up and jeans. He was full of personality, constantly distracted by rocks and grass rather than sitting still—which made for the most authentic and adorable family photos. Having their baby out in nature with them added such a sweet, genuine element to the session.
