Getting to work with Donna and Mark’s family was so much fun last summer! Their immediate family got together at their family cabin in Island Park for family photos. Their cabin is surrounded by tall trees and is nestled in the middle of the forest.
Funny story, (except not really cuz I’m always embarrassed with this happens), I decided to drive my car to the photo shoot. Not really considering that a lot of the roads in Island Park are not very well maintained. And also that not all of the roads show up on Google maps correctly.
So, I drove up this super-rutted gravelly dirt road that was really steep. And I drove down it for a good several miles before realizing that I had to be lost. I get a phone call from Donna and she’s worried that maybe I’m lost, which I am. So that was an adventure! I found the place that I was supposed to be with a little bit of help and direction. But, it’s always made more fun when you lose cell service halfway through 😂
This family was seriously so much fun and incredibly kind. They were amazing to work with. They had beautiful property that surrounded their cabin which was perfect for photos. And the evening lighting was just so gorgeous streaming through the trees. When clients decide to incorporate their pets and other animals in their photo session, I always say, “Yes!”. Each of the families had their own dogs that they brought with them on vacation and included in family pictures. It makes for a pretty unique experience with so many puppers! Most of my Island Park family photo sessions take place at private cabins in the woods. They make for a perfect and private setting!
This family can give a lot of great outfit ideas for family photos in the forest. Their clothing choices also really worked well with their location. Ultimately it’s up to the family to make sure that they are wearing clothing that they feel comfortable in and that they feel flatters their coloring, figures, etc. It’s also nice when they take into account the setting that they’re going to have and how the background will look. I feel like if you are taking photos outdoors, then a less busy pattern is better. I tend to lean towards more solids and stripes or neutral Florals. Island Park has so many trees and greenery, that you really need to consider that! And this family had a good mix of colors, textures, and styles that perfectly complimented their surroundings.
If you’re planning a trip to Island Park, West Yellowstone, Yellowstone National Park, or the surrounding areas, consider booking a family photo shoot. You will love looking back at these images from your fun family vacation. Make it all the more memorable by booking your session with Janelle & Co Photography.
