It is summertime and for many of us that means Beach Days!! So let’s talk about what to wear for beachy sessions! Whether you are planning an engagement session, couples session, honeymoon photoshoot, or family photos, these tips will be helpful. Photos from this post were taken at the beautiful Antelope Island in Utah during a family session. I always take time to capture just mom and dad loving up on each other!
Neutral Colors are King
Neutral, soft colors with denim are some of my favorite beach color combinations. While many colors work for the beach because it’s a neutral palette, this couple had one of my favorite color combos. I love that they were opposite of each other. He wore light on top and denim on bottom, and she wore the denim on top and a white flowy skirt. She added matching accessories, belt and sandals, that complimented her outfit. Then she brought a pop of boldness in with her colorful nail polish.
Why you should choose a dress
Ok, I know you may not be a dress person – and trust me, I’m not either! But dresses and skirts can be surprisingly flattering! While the type of dress you wear is dependent on your location and personal style, this skirt works for a range of body types, and level of dressiness. I love that in these photos, her skirt gives this feeling of ease and comfort for the beach. There is something so carefree, fun, and adventurous about it! It still feels dressy without being formal. And yet it is casual enough that sitting in the sand is totally okay.
Get Adventurous
If you’re planning a session on the beach, be prepared for a little sand and water! And be adventurous and up for it! Bring a towel and an extra set of clothes. Dip those toes, or jump right in, whichever is your preference. But dang getting wet makes for some fun photos! If you’re not sure you want to commit to that level of adventurous, a little snuggling on the sand is always perfect. The more open to ideas you are, the more fun you will have during your photoshoot. Let your personality shine!
