Capturing Golden Hour Wedding Photos in the Tetons

Tracy and Randy celebrated their marriage at home surrounded by loved ones, then headed to Jackson Hole for their honeymoon. They wanted to commemorate their marriage with stunning portraits in the mountains. We met at Schwabacher Landing for their formal wedding attire session, and the results were absolutely magical.

Timing Your Jackson Hole Wedding Session

September brings unique lighting conditions to the Tetons. The sun sets in a different part of the mountains than earlier months, creating bright golden hour with beautiful (but sometimes annoying) sunflares. The real magic happens afterward when we get about 35 minutes of incredibly soft, even light. This is when we captured some of their most stunning images.

We started down by the Snake River’s edge, using the warm golden light to create romantic, glowing portraits. Tracy’s dress was a confection of beads and sheer fabric with a whimsical cape that connected the sleeves, perfect for movement shots. Randy complemented her look with jeans, a white button-up, brown leather vest, and a black printed blazer for a timeless western aesthetic.

After the initial golden hour wedding photos, we found shade and seclusion among the cottonwood trees for intimate portraits. As the sun finally dipped behind the mountains, we returned to the river’s edge to capture the soft, dreamy light that makes this location so spectacular.
