There’s something incredibly special about photographing families against the backdrop of the Grand Tetons, and this early June session at Mormon Row was pure magic. As a Grand Teton family photographer, I’ve witnessed countless breathtaking moments, but this particular session holds a unique place in my heart.
What made this session even more meaningful was our history together. I had photographed this couple’s wedding several years ago when their oldest daughter was just four months old. Now, watching Stephanie & Mikel’s family grow to include two energetic, beautiful girls was like witnessing a favorite story unfold chapter by chapter.
Mormon Row in early June is an absolute dream. The lupine were in full bloom, painting the landscape in vibrant purples that contrasted beautifully with the lush green meadows. The iconic Tetons framed the scene perfectly, their majestic peaks standing sentinel in the background. Everything about the timing was ideal—nature provided the most stunning canvas imaginable for this family’s photos.
The family’s outfit choices were absolutely perfect for a western summer photoshoot—comfortable jeans, a sweet dress paired with a jean jacket, and classic boots. They looked effortlessly coordinated without being too matchy, which always photographs beautifully.
Any experienced family photographer knows that sessions with young children require flexibility and patience. These two girls brought incredible energy and wonderfully short attention spans to our shoot! Rather than fighting against their natural rhythms, we embraced them. The session flowed organically with the whims of the kids, capturing both candid moments of pure joy and those special posed portraits every family treasures.
We made sure to capture every family dynamic: sweet daddy-daughter moments, tender mommy-daughter embraces, the complete family together, and individual portraits of each person. This variety ensures they’ll have images that tell the complete story of their family at this moment in time.
As a Grand Teton family photographer, sessions like these remind me why I love what I do. It’s not just about beautiful landscapes—it’s about preserving memories, documenting growth, and creating heirlooms families will treasure for generations.
